Now you have a website and you don’t know how to do On Page Search Engine Optimization. Am I right? Then read on to learn about On Page SEO and basic methods to optimize your website.
Like I said in What is Search Engine Optimization you need to optimize your website in order to get visitors from search engines. A website without visitors is like a shop in a dessert. So, it is important to do SEO stuff to your websites.
On Page SEO is perhaps the easiest to do because you have full control over your website. But, if you are not a coder or a writer, it may get difficult sometimes. Not to worry. This guide will teach you most important facts in On Page SEO you need to know along with how to accomplish them.
Do a Keyword Research
Well, this is not an On Page SEO aspect but, we need to do a keyword research in the beginning. A keyword tells the visitor that what is your website is about. If you have a website about white chocolate, then the keyword of your website is “white chocolate”. That is the main keyword of your website. If you have some pages on your website then the individual pages must have their own keywords. If you are not sure to choose a keyword for your web pages then visit Google Adwords Keyword Tool to make a research of possible keywords suitable for your web pages. The tool so far is the best and free in SEO market. So, you lose nothing when doing a keyword research and gain golden information from the top Search Engine.
Write Keyword Rich, Unique Titles
It is the title which catches search engine spider’s eyes (and also internet user’s eyes) before visiting a website. The title must be unique and attractive so it enhances the curiosity of the visitor to visit your site. As well as you should include your targeted keyword in your title so it informs search engine spiders what is your website is about.
Make sure not to use only keyword in your title like,
White Chocolate Recipes
But to write creative title like,
Five Delicious Recipes of White Chocolate
Or better yet to pull the keyword to the beginning of your title and write like,
Delicious White Chocolate Recipes for Your Kids
Keep in mind that search engines usually count only 60 characters of a title. So, make your title short as possible. If you don’t know how to add a title then you have to readthis post.
Add Attractive Meta Descriptions
Meta description may not need to be keyword rich but it should be attractive to the visitor. As soon as a visitor makes a search and sees your attractive title in search results, he reads the description to make sure if your page got what he needs. So, you need to be more careful when writing the Meta description of your page.
As Dr.Pete in SEOMoz says Try to make descriptions meaningful and attractive to visitors, not just pseudo-sentences loaded with keywords.
Include Keywords in Your URLs
Imagine that you have a page about Nutrition Matters of White Chocolate and that page is linked like
http://www.yourdomain.com/pageid=45
No one can understand what information the page shares by this kind of URLs. But what if you rename it to
http://www.yourdomain.com/nutrition-matters-of-white-chocolate.php
Then definitely the visitor will understand what your page is about. So do search engines. In fact search engines give priority to this kind of URLs than URLs with numbers, session IDs etc.
Keyword stuffing is not recommended either. You need to add targeted keyword together with some descriptive words. Adding title to the URL will work wonder.
Add High Quality Content
As many SEO masters says, Content is the King. You should add high quality content to your pages if you want better rank in SEs. The content should include your targeted keyword as well as some LSI Keywords. Writing only for Search Engines won’t work either. Google, the most popular search engine is now more intelligent to find whether an article is written for a human or for search engines. Articles written for humans are the ones that Search Engines seek these days. So, use proper grammar, human friendly words as well as write at least 400 word articles. And never use duplicate content. Quoting some duplicate content within your content is OK, though. But your content should be at least 60% original. Check if your content is original or duplicate via CopyScape. If you find your content is not original, then change it immediately. Never use Article Spinners to change your content.
The list goes on but for now these aspects are more than enough for a beginner. You’ll find other facts later in this site so, make sure you add my RSS feed to your feed reader or subscribe to my list. Have something to share? Then welcome to my comments section.
